Maximalist Dublin rock band Thumper have dropped the music video for their new track, ‘Summer Assault’. They describe the video as “an observation of human dualities, dichotomies and synchronicities. I was interested in the layered perspectives of seeing and being — is there such a thing as having a superior lifestyle? Does that mean being a social spider that attends parties, or is it being a health demon who eats beetroot for breakfast? One or the other? Neither or both?.” Their self-professed maximalism is demonstrated in that gritty, Nirvana-adjacent opening, which uses layered guitars and intense drumming to fully fill all textural possibilities. The much more restrained verses prove that Thumper are big fans of that oh-so-90s loud-quiet-loud sound. More to come from Thumper in 2022. -Dan Peeke.
